The Google Chat integration allows Pensero to analyze work-related communication from selected Google Chat spaces.
Pensero uses relevant conversations to:
- Add context to tickets, pull requests, and documents
- Understand collaboration patterns
- Identify discussions that help clarify or unblock engineering work
- Enrich Delivery and Collaboration insights
Pensero only processes messages from spaces that your organization explicitly connects.
Important: Your organization is responsible for informing members that messages from connected spaces will be shared with Pensero.
Who can configure the integration
Only organization admins in Pensero can:
- Connect Google Chat
- Review connected spaces
Before you start
Your organization must create a dedicated Google Workspace account for the integration.
Use the following naming format: [email protected]
For example, if your company domain is `example.com`, create: [email protected]
This account must be active and able to join the Google Chat spaces you want Pensero to analyze.
Pensero only processes information from spaces where this dedicated account has been added as a member.
Pensero does not process:
- Direct messages
- Spaces where the dedicated account is not a member
- Conversations unrelated to tickets, pull requests, or documents
Connect Google Chat
1. Create the dedicated [email protected] account in your Google Workspace.
2. In Pensero, go to Integrations.
3. Select Google Chat.
4. Click Connect.
5. Sign in with the dedicated Pensero account.
6. Grant the requested permissions.
7. Open each Google Chat space you want to connect.
8. Add [email protected] as a member.
9. Repeat this step for every space you want Pensero to analyze.
10. Allow time for the initial synchronization to complete.
Choose which spaces to connect
Only add the dedicated Pensero account to spaces that contain relevant engineering collaboration.
Examples may include:
- Engineering team spaces
- Squad or project spaces
- Technical support spaces
- Architecture or platform discussions
- Spaces used to discuss tickets, pull requests, or technical documents
Do not add the account to spaces that Pensero should not process.
Confirm which spaces are available
Open the Google Chat integration from the Integrations page.
Pensero displays the spaces available to the integration, including:
- Space name
- Date of the last message
- Number of messages
- Number of members
- Privacy setting
Use this list to confirm that all expected spaces are connected.
If a space does not appear, first confirm that [email protected] has been added as a member.
What Pensero processes
From connected spaces, Pensero identifies messages and replies that provide relevant context for engineering work.
This may include discussions linked to:
- Tickets and work items
- Pull requests
- Technical documents
- Requirements and scope
- Reviews and feedback
- Blockers and implementation decisions
Conversations that are not relevant to connected engineering work are not used to calculate Pensero insights.
Check the connection
From the Google Chat integration page, click Run health check to test the connection.
Run a health check when:
- A connected space does not appear
- New messages are not being reflected
- Google Workspace permissions have changed
- The dedicated account has been removed or deactivated
- You want to confirm that the connection remains active
Review the Sync log
Organization admins can open the Sync log from the Google Chat integration page.
The Sync log shows synchronization activity.
Use the Sync log to confirm that Google Chat data is being processed and to identify failed or incomplete synchronizations.
Troubleshooting missing Google Chat data
If expected messages or spaces do not appear:
1. Confirm that the dedicated [email protected] account is active.
2. Run the integration health check.
3. Confirm that the account is a member of the affected space.
4. Check whether the space appears on the Google Chat integration page.
5. Review the Sync log for errors or incomplete synchronizations.
If the issue continues, contact Pensero Support using the chat in the platform.
