Google Drive

This article explains what data Pensero reads, how it is used, and how to set up or update your Google Drive integration.

Overview

Pensero connects to documentation sources like Google Drive as part of the full picture of engineering work, alongside code repositories, ticketing tools, collaboration tools, and calendars. The goal is to capture the broader scope of work, not just code.

That matters because important work often happens in specs, PRDs, technical notes, design documents, and other documentation. Pensero is built to include that work in the same system, instead of limiting visibility to code output alone.

Pensero only processes the folders you explicitly connect.

What Pensero Reads from Google Drive

Pensero ingests document metadata and text content from the files you select.

For each document, Pensero reads:

  • Title: Document name

  • Content: Text extracted from Google Docs or supported file types

  • Document type: Google Doc, Sheet, PDF, etc.

  • Location: Where the file lives in Drive

  • Created by: Document author

  • MIME type: File format identifier

How to connect Google Drive

Go to Integrations โ†’ Document integrations โ†’ Google Drive and copy the Pensero Google service account email.

Step 2 - Open the Google Drive folder you want to share

In Google Drive, open the folder you want Pensero to ingest.

Step 3 - Share the folder with the Pensero service account

Click Share and add the Pensero service account as a Viewer.

The folder must be shared with both:

  • your Google account

  • the Pensero service account

Step 4 - Add the folder in Pensero

Copy the folder URL from your browser and paste it into the form on the Google Drive setup page: https://pensero.ai/documents/gdrive-account/setup/

Once added, the folder will appear under Connected folders.

What to do if no folders appear

If you see No shared folders found, it usually means the folder has not been shared correctly yet.

Check these two things:

  1. the folder is shared with your email

  2. the folder is shared with [email protected] as Viewer

Then refresh the page and try again.

How to review what is connected

After adding a folder, it will appear under Connected folders.

To review the documents Pensero is reading from that connection, click View documents.

How to add more folders later

You can return to the Google Drive page at any time and add another folder from the Manage folders section on your integration page.
