Overview
Pensero connects to Cursor to give you full transparency into how AI is shiping delivery, not just how much AI is being used.
We don’t treat AI usage as a goal on its own. We use it as a directional signal and connect it to real delivery outcomes, so leaders can understand whether AI is helping teams ship better work or creating rework downstream.
Once connected, Pensero automatically aligns Cursor usage with Git activity. No manual exports, no CSVs, no extra work.
What Pensero Reads from Cursor
Pensero ingests Cursor-generated analytics only. We never access or store source code.
From Cursor, we collect the minimum signals needed to understand AI assistance patterns:
Estimated AI-assisted lines
Total lines added
User identifiers
Timestamps for AI events
These signals are then cleaned, standardized, and aligned with Git delivery data, so AI usage is interpreted in context, not in isolation.
How Pensero Calculates AI Usage (%)
Pensero treats AI usage as a directional metric, not a source-of-truth attribution.
We are not asking “who wrote this line of code.”
We are asking “how much AI is influencing delivery.”
AI % = Accepted AI-suggested lines ÷ Total committed lines
Important clarifications:
We use accepted AI-suggested lines as a proxy because no tool can reliably track what survives to the final PR.
This metric is designed to spot trends and patterns, not to audit individuals.
The real value comes from overlaying AI usage with delivery quality and rework, not from the percentage itself.
How to Set Up the Cursor Integration (Step-by-Step)
Prerequisites
You must have Pensero Admin access and access to your organization’s Cursor account at https://cursor.com.
Admin API Key are only available for Teams and Enterprise Plans.
Step 1 – Go to Integrations
Open the Integrations page from the left sidebar and select Cursor.
Step 2 – Connect with your API Token
Obtain your Cursor API Token from the Cursor Settings dashboard > Advanced > New Admin API Key.
Paste the token into the API Token field in Pensero and click Update Credentials.
Step 3 – Confirm the Sync
After a successful connection, your active credentials appear in the integration settings like this.
Pensero will automatically establish the connection and start syncing data. Please allow a few hours for initial processing before insights appear in your dashboards.
Data Visualization
The Cursor integration surfaces AI usage through:
Charts showing how AI assistance evolves over time
Team views to compare adoption patterns across teams
People views to understand individual usage in context
Location views to detect regional differences in AI adoption
These views are designed to support conversations.
Model Cost Visibility
Cursor is currently the only AI coding tool that exposes model-level cost data.
When available, Pensero surfaces these costs directly, so leaders can understand the economic footprint of AI-assisted delivery.
Other tools like GitHub Copilot and Claude Code do not expose this data, so cost visibility is not shown for them.
